Planted in the fall of 2019 - Beautiful blooms in spring 202

Submitted 4 years ago

The Immortality bloomed this year and the plants are incredible. The first year the leaves were there and the plants were healthy, however in 2021 they are multiplying and blooming profusely. Huge flowers!

Q
I purchased an Iris Germanica "Immortality" locally last June. I live in Canada. I knew it was past spring bloom time when I bought it. Ok so far. This spring it bloomed a Lilac/Pink & White bloom. The local garden center, where I bought it told me it had reverted back to its original colour. What are the chances of this happening? I am doing some research to answer this question. If you can help me, I would appreciate it. If you cannot, please let me know of someone who could.
Asked by Rene
Verified Reply - AngelaTo my knowledge, Irises don't revert and change color. There can be some slight variations due to sun exposure, stress, temperature and age of the bloom. Generally, Irises don't change color. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
What amendments shd I add to soil when planting? and What fertilizer is recommended? Thank yoy
Asked by Celia
Verified Reply - ViciWhen planting bulbs individually, use 1 Tbsp. per bulb and mix thoroughly with soil around planting hole before placing bulb in. Bearded irises in poor soil respond well to a light application of fertilizer in spring as new growth starts. The fertilizer will support blooming and health without encouraging the growth of extra foliage. Spread the fertilizer around the rhizome rather than applying it right on top, because direct applications can burn the rhizome. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Will the iris bloom next spring?
Asked by Iris lover
Verified Reply - ViciThese are shipped and planted in the fall. It's entirely possible you will get some blooms in the first season, but usually, this first year is spent developing a robust root structure that will fuel an eruption of flowers in the second full season after planting. Q

Asked by Mia

Q
I bought 6 bulbs of Iris - Immortality. How far apart should I place each bulb? And should the bulb be planted just one inch below the soil?
Asked by Carole
Verified Reply - AngelaYou will want to plant the Immortality Irises about 18-24 inches apart. Plant the rhizomes so the top is exposed. Only the bottom half should be below ground level. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
What is the size of the bloom. I am looking for extra large German blooms
