Astilbe Erika

A great plant to add color, texture and movement to shaded areas. Astilbe Erika features masses of light pink, feathery flower plumes. Growing 32-36" tall, Astilbe Erika's lacy, deep green foliage complements the flowers and adds texture to the garden. Blooming from early to midsummer, Erika Astilbe's light pink feather plumes add movement to the garden as they sway in the summer breeze. Deer resistant and easy to grow, astilbe are ideal perennials for planting in perennial flowerbeds and containers. They make attractive cut flowers, too.  For best results, plant astilbe in well-drained soil in partial shade to full shade.

I planted my bare roots exactly as directed, soaking them and then planting at ground level and I only have had one bare root grow. Very disappointed EDIT: Although the plants didn't all come up, customer service contacted me and gave me a credit to my account no questions asked. I have had great results with other things I have ordered from them so I will definitely order from them again! Great customer service!

I planted 60 astilbe for spring planting, this being one of them. Roots were all in great shape and despite not being able to plant them for a full month and the plants sprouting in the bags, 100% of them lived and are now blooming in July.

Great condition upon arrival, all growing, too early for blooms, but I'm excited to see the show.

Q
Does container friendly mean that it can over winter in the container?
Asked by Jim
Verified Reply - AngelaAstilbe Erika can be grown in a container but won't overwinter well outdoors in your growing zone. We suggest moving the pot into an unheated garage or basement for winter dormancy. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Are these plants easily grown in the pee Dee area of South Carolina? When should these bulbs be planted?
Asked by No nickname
Verified Reply - AngelaIt looks like you are gardening in USDA Hardiness Zone 8. The Astilbe Erika is suited for zones 4 to 8. It should do well in your area with full shade and supplemental water in the dry hots months of summer. If you order now, we will ship them in the spring at the proper time for planting. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I'm in Zone 9. Astilbe Erika is beautiful but not described as hardy for this area. What is my best substitute for a pale pink bloom? Drawf or intermediate size would be fine too. Thank you for your assistance!
Asked by Leslie
Verified Reply - AngelaIf you need a shade plant, I would suggest Convallaria majalis Rosea. It is an early spring bloomer that will do well in zone 9. Also, take a look at Non-Stop Begonia Pink. https://www.dutchbulbs.com/product/non-stop-begonia-pinkWas this answer helpful to you

Q
Hello, I have been trying to replace a large planting of Astilbe 'Cattleya' that fell on hards times. I am finding this variety is not widely available. Do you know how the 'Erika' variety compares as far as color and size? Is it too late now to plant bare root? Thank you! Betsy
Asked by Betsy
Verified Reply - KimberlyAstilbe Erika is pink with a mature height of 32-36 inches and a spread of 18-24 inches. Astilbe 'Cattleya' is lavender to pink in color but has the same height and spread. It is not too late to plant bareroots. Was this answer helpful to you
